The day was perfect on May 10, 1981 and it was Mother's Day. The sun was shining warmly and the grass soft blades of emerald green on a background of a deep blue sky. To celebrate, my two sisters, my parents andI decided to have a bar-b-que. We invited our boyfriends, a few close family member and some friends. My sisters, Kay and Ilene, were celebrating their graduation from college. After graduation, they were going to Hawaii with some of their classmates. Life was great.Laughter flowed freely as the sdcent of a fresh crust for a pie was in the air. My dad, Bart, was at the grill closely watching the hamburgers and hot dogs sizzle, making sure they did not burn. Ilene's fiance Kevin and Kay's boyfriend Jake had just returned from the store with buns, sodas and chips. We were all enjoying one another's company. Kay had just taken the pie crust out of the oven and was taking it out the back door to cool when it slipped from her grasp and fell


d I heard my dad calling my older brother to take them to the hospital. I told mom to not worry, that it was probabaly nothing more than a broken leg. I felt inside that is was somethhing worse. It was more than just a broken leg.I waited for what seemed like hours. I could not take it any more so I called the hospital. I talked to myolder brother. He told me to sit there that someone would come get me. He refused to tell me how our sisters were. I started to cry and he told me to stop. He was never much at consoling one. I just hung up the phone. Frantically I drove to my boyfriends house. I remember pounding on his apt. doorand telling him there had been an accident. He drove me back to my parents house where we waited. Finally my Aunt came and told tus the news. Ilene was killed instantly and Kay was not expected to make it throught the night. I asked in disbelief what happened. It was a drunk driver. He killed his passenger also. But he was unin
