How do you think dinosaurs died? Was it because of an asteroid hitting the Earth or maybe a food shortage? Death and Devastation are far more frequent from deep inside the Earth. An example of this is a volcano. There are more than 3,000 active volcanoes in the world. The most destructive volcano occurred 251 million years ago it's lava flow covered about a million square miles which is now Siberia and destroyed most of life there as well. A volcano is an opening in the Earth's crust through which molten lava, ash, and gases are ejected. Tens of thousands of people are killed each century by volcanoes, whether from the ash, lethal gases, or the lava itself. Other ways that volcanoes kill is from clouds of hot ash, flying rocks, mud flows, tidal waves, and collapsing roofs. Each year about 60 volcanoes erupt. Not only
Last Month the U.S. Geological survey listed 15 volcanoes that are currently erupting or threatening to erupt. These 15 volcanoes include one in Alaska, one in Hawaii, two in Mexico, one in Guatemala, one in Ecuador, one in Montserrat, one in Italy, one in Russia, three in Indonesia, one in Philippines, and two in New Zealand. Volcanoes don't just destroy things they also create things. Some geologists say that early Earth was made of mountains formed from lava. An example of an underwater volcano that created an island or piece of land is the state Hawaii. Most of Hawaii's islands were made from underwater volcanoes. As you can see volcanoes can have pros and cons but mostly cons. Another debate in the volcano world is whether the government's money should be spent on monitoring volcanoes and preventing volcanoes. T
