There is a close, but often misleading relationship between Judaism and Christianity. The discrepancies are great, however, there are many similarities, many because Christianity emerged from Judaism. It is wrong to assume that Christianity as a whole is seen as the natural progression of Judaism.
The most distinct contribution of Judaism to Christianity was the religious thought of monotheism, the idea that there is only one God. “I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:2,3). As Judaism understood this, God could not be made up of multiple united parts. The Christian notion of trinitarianism is that God is made up of the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Although called monotheistic because, by divine force, the three parts are one God, this view is incompatib

However, Jews do respect him as a man. They believe he was a teacher who accepted Jewish law, who did not see himself as the messiah and did not want to start a new religion. Jesus was seen as a Jew who challenged the authorities of his day for the sake of their practices. He meant to approve Judaism the best way he understood, not overshadow it. That said, no Jew, born or converted, can believe in Jews as the literal Son of God or as the messiah. For in Judaism there is but one God.
