Menachem Begin

Menachem Begin affected the Jews, the Middle East, Great Britain, and the world at large. Starting at his earlier years he was enrolled in several armies, a member of Zionist and Nationalist groups. Menachem was a right-wing extremist who promoted violent acts towards the Arabs and Great Britain due to their threat to him and Israel. The peace treaty between Israel and Egypt which Menachem Begin signed is still in effect today. This treaty is very beneficial for Israel. The boldness and fortitude used in bombing the nuclear reactor in Baghdad, that was at first criticized, in retrospect was extremely positive for Israel, America and the rest of the world.

A native of Brest-Litovsk Menachem Begin learned his parents and brother had perished in the flames of the Holocaust. His father was among the 5,000 Brest Jews rounded up by the Nazis. They were taken outside the city limits and shot or drowned in the river. His mother died in a Jewish hospital in Brest, while his brother Herzl passed on without a trace in the Holocaust. "Begin was a man driven to feats of courage and the depths of despair. His vision was forged from the Holocaust and love for the Jewish people." (Web Site #1,g Page 3) Understanding what his family

"On the Prime Minister's seventieth birthday, the London Times, never numbers among his admirers, commented:

 Temko, Ned. To Win Or To Die A PERSONAL PORTRAIT OF Menachem Begin

The common desire of every Jewish Israeli is to be free-free of Britain and the Arabs- and to rule Israel as a Jewish state by Jews. The Prime Minister David Ben Gurion, head of the Haganah, who has been called Begin's "arch political foe", wants what Begin wants; yet they dispute in how to get it. Begin's theory is more reasonable because it is backed by historical events comparable to this one of Israel.

Johan J. Smertenko, vice-president of the American League for a Free Palestine said at a press conference that he and his organization "openly and candidly" supports the violence and sabotage being carried out by the Irgun and Stern Groups. "Smertenko criticized the Jewish Agency's condemnation of violence in Palestine as 'absolute bunk' and called its leaders 'quislings'. He said the Jewish population as a whole supports terrorism as a way to freedom". (N.Y. Herald Tribune 12/10/46)

 Begin, Menachem. WHITE NIGHTS The Story Of a Prisoner in Russia

"These extremists refuse to subordinate themselves to Jewish leaders who patently petition for their rights. They are cynical; no nation has acquired statehood through benevolence of another nation, unless their claims were also backed by the sword, they argue. They back their theory with historical facts, citing as examples neighboring Egypt and Iraq as well as Ireland and the United States". (Moshe Brilliant, Page 250)

ho ever lead men and machines onto the field of battle." Carter than stated how Begin effected the world when he spoke about Begin after his death; "His historic role in the peace conference, peace process, will never be forgotten; particular emphasis, of course, will always be on his historic and I would say very courageous and foresighted role at Camp David", he than went on to say, "but people will remember Menachem Begin as the man that made a significant, courageous breakthrough".
