Mexico Country Analysis
Mexico’s Geography, Topography and ClimateIt is estimated that Mexico has an area of nearly two million square kilometers, commonly defined by several regions: Central, Western, Northwestern, Baja California, Baja California Sur and the Northeastern Region. Source: National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics (INEGI) Mexico has a wide-ranging relief throughout the country. The geography is made up of regions contrasting in many ways, from dry desert to wet tropics, and flat lands to peaks rising 7,000 feet above sea level. It is this rough geography that presents a problem for the resourceful use of shipping. These variances can be viewed in Figure x demonstrating physical characteristics of the geographic areas and their major distinctions. Upon reviewing the geography of Mexico, one will find that Mexico does not have significant natural modes of transportation such as rivers to navigate and transport goods, unlike the U.S. with many natural modes of transportation, such as the Mississippi or the Great Lakes. Mexico has a wide-ranging coastline strategically located in the Americas; however, this natural advantage has been historically underutilized.
