Gender Inequality in the Workplace
The presence of women in the workforce has been growing steadily and now, more than ever, women can be felt in almost every aspect of the workplace. Women, however, usually receive less pay, are not promoted as quickly as men and are discriminated against in the workplace. I am going to look into the inequalities of women in the general workforce and more specifically, in journalism. Women’s numbers in journalism are growing, but females still have a long way to go before they are considered equal to men. Ever since journalism began, men have dominated the field. It used to be forbidden for women to attempt to enter journalism. Now, however, discrimination against females in journalism has lessened, but inequalities still exist. As a female beginning her quest to become a journalist, I must realistically look at who becomes successful and all aspects of what goes on in this line of work. Women of minority and women in other countries often face even lager challenges trying to break into journalism than that of women who live in the United States and Canada.
