A detailed Summary of pssc
President Bush has decided that he wants to give government money to faith based groups so they can play an even more active part in in helping with social welfare. Bush intends to let these faith based groups compete for ten billion dollars giving these programs the money that they need to offer better services for drug treatment, domestic violence, homeless shelters soup kitchens, and after school programs. This is a great idea but what about the separation of church and state. These programs are all faith based and they could use the money that they receive to promote or push their religion onto people in need and that is the major problem. In the article "Bush a Charitable Vision" (san Francisco chronicle) the author sees Bushes idea as one that has potential but it goes against the constitution. Another article "Bush Plans To Loosen Charity" (san Francisco chronicle) the author says that he also thinks that the idea is good but he questions the qualifications of th!
e people that are in these faith based groups.
In the article "Bush a Charitable Vision" supporters of Bush's ideas say "we will not use the governments money to evangelize and preach" (sf chronicle). The idea is that they will use the money to help soci

The problem with this idea being unconstitutional can be argued by the fact that the government has been giving money to faith based groups since 1997 through the charitable choice provision, of the reform act. The government has not been giving faith based groups this large amount of money but they have still been giving them money so why is Bush's new idea different? Well it is different due to the amount of money, and because of the behaviors of some faith based groups in recent years. The article "Bush Plans To loosen Charity" points out that faith based groups do not have a very good track record in some parts of the country. The question that comes from this new plan is are the religious groups capable of handling all the problems that they have to deal with. Another problem which has already been discussed is how these faith based groups use their resources as a tool to lure people in need to follow their beliefs and teachings. Some of these groups have been rep!
orted for abuse, fraud, and other illegal activities. Some Hasidic Jews MADE UP a school in order to get ten million dollars in funding from the government they were tried and convicted. There was another incident where a mother sent her son to a church home because she was having problems getting him on the right track. She did not know what to do he would not listen to
