Nathaniel Hawthorne was a famous American author for his great and

famous stories and novels.

Nathaniel was born on July forth 1804 in Salem,Massachusetts.

He was born with the name Nathaniel Hathorne, he added the w in

college. Nathaniel came from a Puritan family that inclued one of the

judges at Salem's witchcraft trials. When Hawthorne was four his father

died. At nine he was delicate. While growing up he struggled against his

heritage all his life. As he got older he attended Bowdoin University.

There he met his soon to be famous author, roommate Horatio Bridge

who wrote. While at Bowdoin he entered a silence era. Also while at

Bowdoin he wrote "Seven Tales of My Native Land" and "Fanshawe"

which was hardly noticed by anyone except a Boston publisher named

Goodrich. Hawthorne ended up moving to Boston and became a editor
