GOD
In this essay we attempt to answer the question raised in the title. The reason this is asked in the first place is because the technology to achieve this in principle is now, very close at hand. A police state is merely a highly organised centrally controlled system by its very nature. Like any organised system, it must have lots of sensor information that flows to a central system. Any animal such as a frog, cat, bird or human is a centrally organised system in terms of control. This would not be true though for it's biochemistry. It follows therefore that to have a global police state requires many inputs from all levels of society to the greatest detail possible or to whatever level is required by the system to operate. All this information would flow to a few high level data processing centres, from where control can be implemented based on the inputs it is receiving from the system, or society in this case. Thus the question is asked ! Since all these technical pieces of the jigsaw are more or less available, is a global police state inevitable and or possible ? One only has to look back in the last few years at the massive increase in survelliance cameras, data storage capacities, netw
on this ? Much subtle control is already in place, but the vast majority of it only works, because of the webs of political and business self-interests that seek to protect themselves. But these have arisen all of their own accord, organically as it were. However there are many areas of the current situation which are un-healthy. This is why democracy groups and others such organisations concerned with freedon of speech and all the rest are so concerned about big business having monopolies on the media. Do you think a large newspaper or TV station owned by someone on the right is going to cover stories in a fair manner about the left ? Getting back to the issue just raised about there being some control - A lot of this in media way. Note the way there is a lack of deep debate about pratically everyting. Everything is sound bites, issues are presented in very simple and shallow terms. TV is made up mostly of talk-shows, where guests are on for 5 to 10 minutes maximum. The rest ! Enough of this technical stuff, the real issue is then should society be allowed to slip into a global police state or indeed are humans an inherently uncontrollable lot ? It would certainly appear that it could be done from a technical point of view. History shows that even in the most diabolical situations, humans generally have a great capacity to wreck the best of systems to control them. But should we be lured in a false sense of security in our own capabilities, just because a few people managed to escape death camps, where in fact most died, or in cases where people managed to speak out in places like Tibet or East Timor, which now as we speak most of the native population ar
