When comparing and contrasting the self teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X there is much to consider. While Martin Luther King Jr. questioned theories, Malcolm X read letters and tried to improve his education. Both men worked hard within themselves to find their true inner being (the philosophy of existentialism). Both men traveled throughout their lives to different places within their hearts but found one common conclusion, education was the most important part of their lives. Through their homemade education they taught themselves numerous important lessons. Not only lessons of theories and philosophy but of selflessness and self-improvement. Both endured many trials of personal suffering but also, both overcame their indifference.
First looking at Martin Luther King Jr's self education, he started by questioning theories. He researched theories such as the Liberation Theory, the Human Nature Theory and, the false Idealism Theory. Throughout his quest he searched or truth. He
The homemade education of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King compares greatly. Through reading they both found interest. They enjoyed learning about philosophy and applied its teaching to their lives. Both men grew to be great leaders from their experiences, whether good or bad. Both men pushed themselves to work hard and grow with the new information they accessed. The main difference between the two men (academically speaking) is that martin Luther King Junior was able to use the outside world as a prominent source in his learning. Malcolm X found the outside world through the jail library and the text of the books he read. He leaned on past experiences to drive his mind to learn more. With the understanding that the two men came from similar times the outcome of their lives was very unpredictable. As people remember these two men many will compare and contrast how they survived, not knowing that they survived because of their homemade education.
