In Last of the Breed Joe Mack struggles to survive in the Siberian wilderness after his plane is forced down and he escapes a Soviet prison camp. Both nature and man are equally cruel on him in this story. Neither force ever gives in on him as he tries to escape Russia through the Bering Strait.

Joe Mack must learn to survive in Siberia on his own and without any tools or weapons. He has thousands of men chasing after him under the command of Colonel Zamatev and a legendary Yakut tracker named Alekhin who knows every inch of the Siberian wilderness.
