Since our Country's "War on (a certain few herbs and) Drugs" causes such carnage, devastation and so many deaths, in our towns and cities, I do hope that more and more people speak out about all the harm and all the deaths that our current Prohibition causes. Perhaps it's worth reminding folks about a few facts about our "Wars on Drugs."Our earlier Prohibition, raised our National Murder Rate from about 1.1 or 1.2 murders per 100,000 citizens per year, to about 9.8 murders per 100,000 citizens per year. So, roughly speaking, that "War on Drugs", raised our National Murder Rate almost 1000%. Then, just as now, much of our violent crimes, and many of our murders, were caused by black market drug sellers, fighting over the rights to sell their wares, etc. Please note: alcohol, per se, wasn't the cause of all our new, "extra" murders during Prohibition, but rather, Prohibition itself, was the proximal cause of these murders. Likewise, "drugs" don't cause many of our mur
ders today, but people fighting over the rights to sell them, do cause many of our murders today. All these murders would not happen, if "drugs" were legal, and regulated, just like tobacco is today. The following year after our "Noble Experiment", our earlier Prohibition, was ended, the murder rate in Michigan dropped 70%. In our nation, as a whole, our murder rate quickly dropped 50% following Prohibition. [Note, our National Murder Rate ended up about 500% higher, after Prohibition, than it was before Prohibition.] Those in favor of our current "War on Drugs" wish for some control and regulation over "illegal drugs", but by making "drugs" illegal, there is little control, and even less regulation, of illegal drugs. For instance, some folks say it's easier for young school kids to buy "hard" illegal drugs, than it is to by tobacco. This is despite the fact, that the tobacco companies often have storeowners place tobacco where young kids can steal it easily. I h
