Given the many types of Protestants found in America, both past and present, we are able to speak of a common Protestant tradition because they have all been able to expand and stay related in some ways. Whether these expansions are large or small, they seem to be constantly trying to improve their religion as a whole. In the midst of this growth, there have been numerous common themes that have linked these Protestants together. The purpose of this essay will be to examine the different paths of this religion, and also to discuss these common themes that provide a bond amongst Protestants across the United States.

Protestantism Reformation began in the 16th Century only with the help of Martin Luther and John Calvin. It started because these leaders wanted to go against the Roman Catholic Church; they created new rituals and a new theology (notes 3/12). This theology made by Luther and his 95 Thesis was rather harsh and strict at first. It basically told worshipers that God was angry and that all people were innately evil no matter how they lived their lives.

Calvin institutionalized Protestantism (Calvinism), and with that, much anxiety in the process. T

Liberalism would teach optimism about human society and preach a message of social reform that could be achieved through strong and concerted effort. And in certain forms it would privilege experience, putting its premium on a felt individual participation in religion. All of this would add up, in different ways, to religious freedom (Albanese 119).

In conclusion, some of these forms of Protestantism are very different when comparing with each other. However, I feel the similar points I just mentioned really connect them all in one way or another. There are additional sources that I could get into, but I feel that for the purpose of my thesis, I do not need to examine this topic any further. If, at first, my title for this essay confused you, hopefully now you understand why these many Protestant breeds are more related than one would think. I know I was intrigued.

Now that have I touched up on these various forms of Protestantism, I think it is appropriate that I discuss the common sources that link all/most of these Protestant types together (hopefully, one would be able to already realize a few after reading this essay). There is an evident connection with the Bible amongst these many forms. They have a strong value in the scripture and which they heavily believe in God and His son, Jesus Christ (whether they are compassionate or punishing). The idea of individualism seemed to be a similar theme as well. Most forms of Protestantism try to accomplish this with hopes to increase the fellowship of common worshipers in the church. Speaking of the church, this was the final major theme that I saw in most of the types that I discussed. This was a common place that everyone could relate to and come to worship together.
