Knowledge is the key to success in any society, without knowledge us as human beings cannot survive. It is also important that knowledge have a means of being passed on from person to person. The invention of the printing press in 1450 changed and revolutionized the way knowledge was spread thought the world forever. Knowledge was now more readily available and easier to pass on to many more people. Before the advent of the printing press the Catholic Church was the only source for written materials. In a sense the held and controlled all the written knowledge. All the written materials that the Church held was passed down, transcribed by monks who were believed that they were doing a service to god by copying the literature, so they didn’t question anything.
