otosclerosis

Otosclerosis is a disease of the middle ear that slowly forms abnormal spongy bone. #+ # The disease results in a conductive hearing loss that, may spread to the inner ear resulting in a sensorineural hearing loss.# Otosclerosis may be caused by infection or a jarring blow to the head.# The sound entering the ear cannot travel across the ossicular chain to the inner ear.# This process occurs so gradually that the person with it often does not know that they have it until someone else calls it to attention. Many people consciously and unconsciously learn to lip read. Signs of a hearing loss may be an inability to hear when someone turns around or asking people to repeat themselves. With otosclerosis a patient may have a conductive hearing loss in one or both ears. A specific sign of otosclerosis may be tinnitus. Tinnitus are a disorder where noises in the ear are perceived. In half the cases of Otosclerosis tinnitus will disappear if treated with surgery.

There are many options to treat otosclerosis. Those where it only affects one ear may adapt, though it may be a bit stressful. Some may choose to have a hearing aid fitted. Those people usually have health problems, old or young age, or concerns with surgery. Most people with go

Two different types of otosclerosis are Cochlea otosclerosis and Stapedial otosclerosis. The middle ear contains a vital part to a person's ability to hear, the ossicular chain. It contains the malleus, incus, and stapes, in that order. Stapedial otosclerosis spreads through the malleus and the incus to the stapes. Otosclerosis slowly hardens and softens the bones. The stapes rests in the oval window that has close contact with inner ear fluids. Cochlear otosclerosis is the otosclerosis spreading to the inner ear. Consequently, a sensorineural hearing impairment will likely occur because of interference with the inner ear function. This loss is permanent once it is developed. On occasion otosclerosis can spread to the semi-circular canals disrupting the person's balance.#

od health will choose surgery. This surgery is called a stapedectomy, which is the removal of the stapes bone. The bone is replaced with another material, which is quite tiny.# Patients may return home the same day or stay over night in the hospital. Local or general anesthesia can be

Otosclerosis does not usually result in a severe hearing loss. Surgery is very profitable and often brings hearing to a complete normal level. Normally it is only a conductive loss, which always has a chance to be repaired. Rarely, does it advance to a sensorineural loss. Some people who opt against surgery and other devices will live happy normal lives as deaf people. Deaf people are great people and are just like the rest of the hearing population, except for their ways of communicating. None of them should be considered disabled because there is nothing wrong with them. Otosclerosis is curable but not all people wish to use that route. Once they have become comfortable in their deaf world they may not want to leave. To many deaf people the deaf world has become a blanket of security. Venturing out into the hearing world may be an extra challenge that one is not ready to face. Deaf people one may not know what is expected of them in the hearing world because they must start again from scratch. One must learn how to communicate all over again, similar to a baby learning how to speak.

she loves her life. She absolutely loves her cats and seems to communicate with her brother well.#

Diagnoses are a little difficult for this disease. It is often confused with other diseases of the ossicular chain and tympanic membrane. Diagnoses are sometimes delayed until surgical exploration is available. Malleus head fixation causes a similar conductive hearing loss that may involve stapes fixation. This is also something that otosclerosis can cause. Congenital fixation of the stapes may occur by itself in the middle ear or with an abnormally small tympanic membrane, partial meatal atresia, or a
