hamlet
Gibson's version is more to reality The ghost scene in the 1990 Version of Hamlet directed by Franco Zeferelli far surpasses in many ways the version made in 1996 of Hamlet directed by Kenneth Branagh. The Gibson version is better because Gibson and Paul Scofield who plays the ghost portray the scene more to reality of how it would have happened according to Shakespeare's text. The ghost is seen to be more of just a pale person who looks dead or very sick. Which was a much better approach to go to then in the 1996 version where the ghost looks possessed and over done. The reactions and body movements of Gibson and Scofield show the feelings and emotions of Hamlet and his father better at the time. The only emotions that are portrayed out in the Branagh production are horror and confusion. Gibson and Scofield even though there acting ability did not shine portrayed this scene better with the relationship between father and son and how a father and son would react in that situation. The first meeting of the ghost and Hamlet happens when hamlet is with Horatio. The expressions and reaction that they had when seeing the ghost were acted good the fall back but then they came to there bearings fast because Hamlet wanting to
wo separate directions. Scofield comes off as a father who comes back from the dead to warn his son of what Claudius had done and so that to tell what do to do about Gertrude Hamlets mother. The ghost of Blessed comes off right away of someone who wants revenge, and someone who wants to scare not to help. The way Gibson and Scofield were portrayed was so it could seem more real not set off to drama like Blessed and Branagh were portrayed. The ghost scene was portrayed in very different ways in both versions. When It came to the Gibson version it came across as if it as more real then the Branagh version. Branagh relied on special effects to make it seem more dramatic rather then the actual words of the play. Gibson and Scofield when the ghost was telling hamlet what had happened to him and who had killed him. Each of the actors used body language, changes in voice patterns, and facial expressions very well so this version did not have to rely on camera angles moving around the woods and zoom in on the eyes and mouth to create more drama rather then just having by the sense of the words. The appearance of each ghost was a big part of how each scene was seen. The ghost of Scofield looked more real, wearing the amour, and he was not dressed up to look possessed like the approach that was used in the Branagh version with the ghost. With these appearances the effect on the viewer and on Hamlet comes off in t! When they were going to swear on the sword this is the only time I saw both versions to be done well except for the part where the ghost says swear. In the Gibson version the sword is held out they all swear and the ghost voice comes off as scary and powerful so they would sw
