The Libertarian Party only goes back to 1971. On December eleventh of that year the party was founded in the home of David Nolan. It was founded by disillusioned Republicans, Democrats and political newcomers who hoped to create an alternative to the old parties.

It was founded due to the realization that politicians had strayed from America's original libertarian foundation, with disastrous results.
