Bradley Nowells Life

Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about Bradley Nowell, his early life, his early success with the band Sublime, and his untimely death.

March 1997, I come home late Sunday night from work and turn on MTV's 120 Minutes to see a new video I never saw before. The name of the band was Sublime. The name of the song was called "What I Got." I have been listening to the band since. Their popularity continued to rise with mainstream hits such as "Santeria", "Wrong Way", and "Doin Time". And I began to research the history of this 3-man band. In particular I focused my attention to the late Bradley Nowell, the lead signer and guitarist of Sublime. My name is Tom Myron and I am here to talk about Bradley Nowell, his early life, his early success with Sublime, and his untimely death. My information was obtained off of several websites that give tribute to Bradley Nowell and the book Bradley Nowell: Portrait of a Punk written by Hedi Cuda.

The band was becoming one of the most popular acts from San Diego to Santa Barbara selling 60,000 copies of their first album "40oz to Freedom" out of the trunk of their car. Despite all this success they had no record deal. Bradley looked at why other rock stars became great and concluded that they all did heroin. He started a 2-year experiment to expand his creativity by taking heroin. He hooked up with Gwen Stephani of No Doubt and made a song called "Saw Red" that was going to be used for his demo and new album. While all this was going on a local rad!

Bradley Nowell touched many hearts from his millions of adoring fans, to his friend and his family. Brad was a man who loved surfing, eating, drugs, his dog Louie, his son Jakob, his wife Troy, and of course his music. It was said that he will never die. He will always live on in his music and in the heart of his son Jakob.

Brad and Troy started dating and fell in love. In June of 1995 their son Jakob James Nowell was born. Brad was happy and went back into the
