Acne
Did you know that skin was the largest organ of the body? Your skin is vital to your whole body. The amazing abilities of your skin are often overlooked. Skin not only holds the body together but it also protects your body from harmful foreign substances, harmful bacteria, and ultra violet rays. Your skin is a two layer structure that is always regenerating itself . The epedermis is the outermost layer of the skin- the part you see. It is composed of dead cell with new living cell underneath them. The living cells move to the surface of your skin in a four-week cycle. Beneath the first layer, is a layer of skin called the dermis. The dermis is fifteen to forty times thicker that the epedermis. The dermis consists of collagen and elastis fibers. Your skin also contain various glands. The sebaceous glands are the skins natural oil supply. Although the sebum produced (oil) is necessary for soft, pliable skin, it also is the cause of the leading skin disease. Nearly seventeen million people in the United States have acne, making it the most common skin disease. Although acne is not a severe health threat, it can lead to permanent scarring, disfiguring, and can lead to lowered self-esteem.
