Eric Arthur Blair was born on 25 June 1903 in Motihari, Bengal, India (Oxford 700). The middle child of English parents and was noticed to have exceptional writing skills at a young age. It was more the era rather than the country that affected Orwell's writing. But seeing everything first hand might have had some impact. Orwell lived in London for most of his life. He saw during the 1940's that communism was becoming a threat. He felt that a communistic government was too powerful and that it would ruin the chance at having a good life. Orwell saw Hitler try and take over the world using his techniques of mind control and brainwashing. He used the idea of brainwashing in his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. Orwell wrote the book Animal Farm that was about Vladimir I. Lenin, the Russian revolution, and communism. He used animals to represent different types of people.
