Interracial Adoption

Race should not be a factor in considering adoption. People should think about the human being and not the skin color. Some people are letting the color of skin get in the way of love, friendships and adopting children. Interracial couples are becoming more acceptable in the American society. Some families are willing to share love with children regardless of their race. There are some risks in adopting an child, just as there are risks in life, so what’s wrong with learning about other cultures through adoption? When adults choose to adopt children, they should know exactly what the responsibilities are, which they have accepted. However, if a child receives the right love and guidance then, problems may be less likely to occur. Some critics may say that there are too many standards for adoption such as, when a child is placed into a home, the couple must have a Christian commitment, motivation for adoption, marital stability, physical and mental health, personality factors, family relationship and size, hard-to-place infants, age range, fi!

hat transracially adopted children handle identity issues easier than other adopted children (Interracial families, 1995). It has been shown that transracial adoption works; children grow up aware of their identity. If a parent adopts a child from a different country, then the parent can visit that child’s country and learn how to as teach their child about his or her background. Many families find the visit a great learning experience says Smith (Smith, 1994). Parents can also learn about different hair types when they adopt interracially. Ch
