How Hurricanes Came About
A detailed Summary of How Hurricanes Came About
Long ago, on the Island of Aeolia lived a god named Zebco and his mortal wife Hurricaneous. Zebco was the God of fishing. The earth and mankind had just been created. The earth's land and water were always tranquil because the God's were at peace with each other.
Zebco was a fanatical fisherman. He was constantly at sea trying to catch the ever elusive, "big one." His wife resented the weeks and sometimes months her husband spent at sea. She knew he loved fishing more than he loved her.
One day she fell to her knees and begged, "Zebco please stay with me. I am so lonely and childless. Please do not go!" Since Zebco had no love for his wife he just pushed her aside. He ordered, "wife get up and bring me my rods and reels." Hurricaneous brought Zebco his tackle with her head hung low. Her heart was heavy with sadness. He grabbed them from her. As Zebco was about to storm out the front door he turned to her and shouted, "I am Zebco the God of fishing. I must prove my superior fishing skills to all of man and to the rest of the Gods. That evening Amphtrite went to her son Aeolus and told him her plan. " I want you to change Hurricaneous into a force of twisting wind above the sea that will suck Zebco up into it and can prevent him from escaping. I must know this though; are you willing to give up your life as it is on earth to have Zebco forever to yourself?" Hurricaneous replied, "Absolutely without a doubt." Amphtrite told her to prepare herself to go with her tomorrow to find Zebco at sea.
forgive me, it is just Zebco has abandoned me, and I do not know what I will do." She proceeded to tell the Goddess everything that happened between she and Zebco. Amphitrite told Hurricaneous, "Find another husband for there are more fish in the sea." This was impossible because Hurricaneous was a weak woman. She had the strength of a small twig in a windstorm. Hurricaneous wept, "No matter what Zebco does to me, I could never love anyone else." Amphitite felt compassion for Hurricaneous and told her, "I will think of a plan where Zebco will not ever be able to leave you gain."
Hurricaneous was a faithful servant to the Gods. As a favorite of Amphitrite, goddess of the sea she often asked Hurricaneous to feast with her. The next day Amphitrite invited Hurricaneous to lunch. Amphitrite had never seen Hurricaneous look so distraught. Her eyes w
