Anarchy
Anarchy: No Governments, No RegulationsAutonomous government, yes; private property no. This is the underlying concept of many young anarchists today. Anarchy is a commonly misunderstood concept. Lincoln is one of these young anarchists. He is a spindly 19-year-old Texan who went to Seattle to protest. During this time, he stays at a largely vacant building on the edge of downtown Seattle. About 100 anarchists stay there every night. There is no power or water in this building. Organizers have set up a kitchen and toilet system for their use. They all come to protest the World Trade Organization. Lincoln along with 25,000 other protesters marched the streets of Seattle, December 8, 1999. A few protesters became unruly and started smashing windows. This brings the police in with rubber bullets and tear gas. By the end of the night, Lincoln has a bruised rib, and a stinging in his eyes that will not go away. The actions of the police violate the American people's Bill of Rights. The first amendment say! s Americans have the freedom to assembly, which is the right of the people to gather peacefully to protest social, political, and economical situations and demand reform. They differ in age, sex and race. They come from all over the world with different opinions on the meaning of anarchy. Although, there is a stereotype of the average anarchist. "The anarchist movement today is a sprawling welter of thousands of mostly young activists populating hundreds of mostly tiny splinter groups" (Lacayo 38). Some anarchists are peaceful, and often considered dreamers. Some anarchists dress in all black and form groups. They are the people who are supposedly responsible for all the rioting and the damage in the "Battle of Seattle". Not all anarchists are like that, in fact, most are just your average person who feels it is not right for man to govern man. "Anarchists have a more romantic approach to life" (Jacker 1). Some however, are exactly the opposite, and are extremely violent. "Although some consider Anarchists violent, Ruchus Society dir! hey want anarchy for a better, and brighter future, not because they want chaos, and malice to preside. "Rich capitalists have been extremely cruel with employees going to the extreme of not allowing unions (Suskind 49)." Many feel that capitalism creates greed, and hatred in humans. If we were to govern ourselves, then man's more humane characteristics would come through. were either shot with rubber bullets or sprayed with tear gas. "Anarchy is about peace, respect and cooperation, not threats, hate, and violence" (Hartman 1). Jacker, Corinne. The Black Flag of Anarchy. Then on the edge of the crowd, an explosive was thrown into the crowd of police, seven officers were fatally wounded, and around 60 others were injured. The enraged police then started firing revolvers at everyone in the crowd. An estimated five to sixty were injured. The police narrowed the bombing down to several anarchist suspects.
