When will sexual mutilation of females around the world stop? This type of circumcision (mutilation) is a violation of human rights in its purest form. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is practiced in the Middle and Far East, and over twenty-six countries in Africa. FGM is also preformed in Sudan, Somalia, Northern Kenya, parts of Ethiopia, and along the Red Sea coast (Hosken-feminist.com, mutilation). There are a couple antimutilation groups that are sending people out to educate these people on the risks and problems that come along with FGM. As we educate more people around the world about how risky the procedure is there will be a better chance of stopping FGM before it becomes even more popular in the U.S. Too many young females are dying because FGM was preformed on them and there was a complication. What is Female Genital Mutilation? There are four levels of FGM, circumcision, clitoridectomy, intermediate infibulation, and infibulation. The first level is circumcision, where the operator removes only the skin-hood, which covers the clitoris. Most of the labia minora, the clitoris, and the skin-hood are removed in clitoridectomy.
