progress

A detailed Summary of progress

Ten Summoner's Tales, huh? It's a good albulm, and to tell you the truth, I actually listened to it while I wrote this thinking piece. It created a different setting than I am used to. Anyways, to get to the point I was uncertain if you meant who Sting is in dialog with or more with what he is dialog with. There are so many people that Sting could be speaking in association with that it would be impossible to name one. But I think you are hinting to us. Based on the readings that were associated with this assignment, I'm going to guess and say that Sting and Condorcet are in dialouge. Antoine sure new his stuff about the progress of the human mind. He was a rebel who spoke out during the French Revolution and so his ideas were considered rebellious. Anyways, Antoine killed himself when he was in his cell after he had worked on his piece (Sketches for a Picture of the Progress of the Human Mind). He "lost faith" on the system and I would say the progress that humanity!

is making. Everything was in bloody chaos, I mean th

I think that it would also be appropriate to talk about what Sting is speaking about, because he (I would assume) is speaking from a more modernized perspective. All the things that humanity are "progressing" on today, by argument, could be considered less that ideal. Hitler sure made progress in killing millions upon millions of people in his goal of creating a perfect nation. Corporations sure make finacial progress in drawing so many people into them through the aid of advertisements. We see here, through the aid of technology, psyhcology and cleverness the progression of one's fincances and stock value and quite possible the digression of ideals. Both the thinkers during the Scientific Revolution were not neccesarily trying to develop these wonderous values amoung people. They were more considered with tangible manifstations and clearer conceptual undestandings of the world arounf them (both the physical aspects of nature and mankind and the institutions that govern!

man). The capatalistic nations of the world want to be powerful
