the last emporer

The Last Emperor was the next movie that I chose two watch. I can remember seeing the movie box on the shelf in the same video store that I still go to since I was a young boy, but for some reason I had never checked it out to view. That was a big mistake. This movie was one of the best movies I have ever seen, a little bit depressing but very good. It was kind of hard to follow the plot, there always seemed like a different situation was taking place. That is probably the reason why it captured my attention through the whole film. It really makes you feel sorry for the emperer. This movie was better than Seven Years in Tibet. Although in a way I am glad that I had not seen The Last Emporer when I was a young boy, because I would not have gotten the full effect or understanding out of it.

As a three year old boy the emporer is taken from his mother on his way to the forbidden city where he is to be throned. As he enters the empresses room she is on her death bed. She explains her situation to the boy, but he really has not a clue what is happening in his life at this point. She goes on to say that men are not let out after dark in the forbidden city. This seemed strange to me, they really did not

but some how the Japanese get him back and throw him in jail. At the Age of 53 he is released after serving a ten year sentence. Next it shows him in Pekin as a parade is moving down the streets celebrating Japans new leader. He sees someone he knows from his past. It turns out to be his prison worden, as a prisoner himself, how ironic. He was being publicly humiliated for what ever he had done.

Furthermore, the emporer plans to escape from his palace. After he was denied to see his mother after she had passed away it left a sour taste in his mouth, and even more curious thoughts about the outside world in his head. As would soon happen the emporer choses a wife or should I say wives. Both are beautiful women that seem to be a little more mature than him at first. At this point in the movie it seems to me that the way the chinese act does not allow for too

The forbidden city has been turned into a museum where cultural wonderers come to see what it was like to live like an emporer. This was a very well directed movie. The only problem was they spoke in english and not chinese. Subtitles and chinese language would have made the film feel more authentic. All in all it was a very touching film.

t seems at first he misses his mother as she comes to visit him time to time.

much fun. They always seem to be down to business. Just the opposite of the American lifestyle. Next, the emporer cuts off his hair. Every once and a while it will flash back to him in jail as in reference to a flash back. It takes a few flashbacks to realize that the prisoner is the emporer.

Finally the emporer has become wise to why everyone is still serving him, because they are stealing from him behind his back. He orders inventory of the palace, but the storage building is burnt down. At this point he feels almost betrayed by his people. As he plays tennis the Japanese take over the city and force him out. He stays in Tientsin for a while where he is forced to pay for the place in which he now lives. As you can see his li
