The Hobbit

The story takes place in Middle-Earth, in the Third Age of its history. It's a land and time of Goblins, Dwarves and Dragons. The story contains the elements of a fantasy story, but in comparison with The Lord of the Rings, is much like a fairy tale (not as complex and thorough). The narrator is omniscient, but mainly follows Bilbo Baggins like a sort of shoulder-camera. Bilbo Baggins's thoughts are sometimes quite clearly expressed by his behavior. You also get a rather good peek inside the head of Bilbo Baggins, especially when he's alone somewhere.

Bilbo Baggins: A hobbit, a small men-like creature with big, hairy feet. Hobbits like the comforts of life and tend to enjoy themselves and indulge themselves as often as possible. Bilbo Baggins also likes the comfort of an own place and his settled life, no adventure, but enough to eat and a rather large supply of pipe-weed to the trick.

Gandalf: An old wizard, who came to visit Hobbiton a lot in the old days, and brought fire-works. But this time he comes with a different errand: He has chosen Bilbo Baggins to be the Hobbit to travel to a far away region of Middle-Earth and to, along with the

Thorin Oakenshield : Leader of the group of dwarves and -as he claims- the rightful heir to the Lonely Mountain and thus to the gold that lies hidden there. He is son of Thror, son of Thrain, King under the Mountain.

Bilbo Baggins was ordered to explore and find the dragon. Bilbo Baggins put on his ring and set out. After some traveling, he found a great room, inside, was a dragon fast asleep. Bilbo Baggins grabbed a golden cup from the giant mound of treasures and went back to the others. The next day, Bilbo Baggins went back to the dragon, when he got into the room, he noticed that the dragon had its eye slightly open. The dragon spoke, he said "I know you are here, I just can't see you." Bilbo Baggins and the dragon had a nice long talk, the dragon also mentioned that he wanted to kill Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo Baggins went back and told them all the news. One night, the dragon flew around the mountain burning everything; he was looking for the back entrance, the closed the doors just in time before the flames hit. They didn't know it, but the dragon had flown of to Lake Town. They all sat quiet for about a week, then Bilbo Baggins decided to go see what the dragon was doing. The dragon was !
