India

4) While the Egyptians were building the great pyramids around 2500 BC, people in the northwestern part of India were laying bricks to build India's first cities. There were many beautiful and organized cities in this region, also known as the Indus valley, but one of the biggest and popular cities was the Harappa. If I were a citizen of Harappa, I would be living in city with streets running North-South and East-West like a grid. The houses would be built with bricks of similar size (just like the Egyptian Pyramids were built) in a carefully planned city. My everyday life would be calm and simple. I would be a farmer producing rice, wheat, barley etc. I may be also trading spices with Persia and diamonds with Rome.

In this process of trade, if I wanted to send my boats to the Arabian Sea by water, I would have to travel about six hundred miles on the Indus River. 3) The Vedas are of great importance to Indians thousands of years ago and even today. The Indian civilization is based upon the caste system. This caste system was in tern based on the Rig-Veda. The Vedas told people of each group what to do. For example, A Brahman becomes a priest and a Kshatriya becomes a king.
