A detailed Summary of Atomic Bomb

The United Stated played a very important role in World War two. We were the reason for an allied win, and we also sparked the technological advancements in weaponry that lead to a lot of the superior technology that now exist. It was because of the passion that the United Stated had for developing and the recruiting skill of the United States, which was used to bring in a German Physicists; that a new war technology was given birth to and this was the atomic bomb. The atomic bomb is a weapon that is made of plutonium, which came from uranium (www.whistlestop.org). The atomic bomb was dropped on two Japanese cites by the names of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima was called "Little Boy" and the force of it is estimated at 13,000 tons of TNT (www.whistlestop.org). The Nagasaki bomb named "Fat Man" had an estimated explosion power of 22,000 tons of TNT (http://history.acusd.edu/gen/20th/coldwar1.html). The estimated death count for these two bombs !

is between 115,000 - 340,000. The reason for the wide range of death counts is because of the uncertainty about attributing cancer deaths to radiation (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/trinity/articles/part1.html). Because of this wide spread destruction t

hat was caused by the atomic bomb a question of Truman's objectives when deciding to drop the bomb comes to mind. The obvious reason for Truman dropping the atomic bomb was to end World War two, and to save the lives of soldiers. Another reason for Truman to drop the bomb on Japan was because of the increasing power of the USSR. Before his death President Roosevelt had several confrontations with USSR leader Josif Stalin. While Truman's main objective was to end World War two by dropping the atomic bomb, his underlying objective was to show the USSR the superior power the United States possessed.

Truman knew that the US and USSR were headed towards the Cold War and that is why she kept the Atomic Bomb hidden away in his back pocket, that could be used against Josif Stalin if necessary. Therefore the decision Truman made to drop the Atomic Bomb on Japan was a mixture of his wanting the war to end and him wanting to show off the United States' weaponry arsenal, to the USSR.

d have to face the onslaught of questions from the public, and then they would have to deal with the espionage of the USSR. The first release of information about the Manhattan project, as the development of the atomic bomb was called was in the Smyth Report (www.whistlestop.com). This report was "devised for the purpose of giving a general picture of the development of the atomic bomb" (www.whistlestop.com). The report contained little scientific information, which contradicts its purpose because it was written to spread scientific education, and help it flourish.
