Kay Boyle: Artist or Hack?

Before World War II broke out and France fell to the Germans, Kay Boyle had been living and writing in France. She was a serious writer. She had been taken seriously by the critics and was pretty much respected. People thought that she was a real artist, some people even thought that she was one of the best of the expatriet writers who was over in Europe at that time.

Kay Boyel had written a lot of stories and some novels during the late twenties and thirties, most of these were based on her life experiences. When France became an occupied country after the Germans invaded, Kay Boyel continued to write stories that were based on her life. But now things were different, she wanted to write about her life and about what she had experienced jusst like before but now she also really wanted Americans to understand what was really going on over in Europe (in France especially, since that is where she was living and that was the country she really knew about). She felt that Americans were really judgmental about the French and thought that they had been spineless against the Germans, but she really understood how hard it could be
