Reparations - Should History be paid for?
A detailed Summary of Reparations - Should History be paid for?
Slavery and discrimination of human beings is a terrible, inhumane practice and is something that should never be done, and should never have been done. The United States of America was one of the biggest practitioners of this injustice in the past and this is something that shall for all time mar the history of America. Slavery originates from the beginning of history and has since been abolished in American culture. Many feel that the memory of slavery should be paid tribute in the form of reparations. They believe America today is completely responsible for the horrible lives that African-Americans had to face, and that all African-Americans should receive payment from the government. However, others feel that slavery isn't the problem of people today, black or white, and that no reparations need to be paid. Each has their own point of view, and their own way of portraying the problem. Some choose to elaborate on the pain and sufferings of others, and some choose to!
adhere to non-discriminate ideals that currently exist in society. Cutting through all emotion and fronts put up by both sides and by properly analyzing the issue, reparations are ultimately supervacaneous and unreasonable.

He believes and wants any reader to believe that by insisting on the payments of reparations, they are insisting on instigating racism. The opposing view of pro reparations is lead by Lerone Bennett, Jr., executive editor of EBONY Magazine. Bennett states his opinion on the basis of America was wrong and African Americans should be paid for America's mistake.
Reparations would ultimately back track civil rights casting African Americans apart from society. If African Americans receive reparations this will set African American away from not only whites, but also all of America. Shown in Native Americans who receive reparations from the Government. Native Americans that receive reparations from the Government live on reservations and have the right to do certain things that are not allowed in many of the states that the reservations are in. For example casinos are allowed on Native American reserves when they strictly outlawed in some of the states directly surrounding the reserve. This shows that reparations paid set Native Americans apart from the rest of the society. If reparations are to be paid to African Americans who are to say that the same type of separation from society will not happen. Supporting my view is David Horowitz. He says that by receiving reparations,
ons for African American's would bring up more controversy and cause numerous problems for America. Relating to this John Conyers said, "we are not asking for anything dramatic. We simply think that Congress should take a look at the lingering effects of slavery so we may get a deeper appreciation of them and reach some consensus about what the solutions may be. The issue of reparations is not something beyond our understanding. It's a pretty fundamental issue if you look at it. I'm saying it's time we did" (Conyers 2). This argument sounds reasonable despite the simple fact that reaching a consensus about the amount of repar
