In "That Hideous Strength," Mark Studdock is faced with the choice of opposing evil or submitting to it. Throughout the novel, Mark sides with a group called the N.I.C.E., an example of an evil democracy trying to take over the world. The N.I.C.E. is countered by a group of Christians from St. Anne's who strive to make the world a better place. The N.I.C.E. could generally be describes as one word: evil. They are highly anti-Christian, manipulative, and cliquish. With this description the society sounds less then appealing. However to Mark, it was all he ever wanted
