a beloved princess
A Beloved PrincessIn the summer of 1961 on July 1 Diana Frances Spencer was born. Her birth took place at Park House, the home her parents rented on the English royal family's estate at Sandringham. Diana led a good life. Successfully achieving many dreams and goals. Helping people in need and doing what she believed was right. Although she had fantasies of being a ballerina or teaching children, she never believed that one-day she would be a princess. Her childhood was not filled with wonderful memories. When Diana was six, her mother left her father. After the divorce in 1969, Diana's father received custody of the children. She never did well academically but was recognized at West Heath, in Kent, with a special award for service in 1977. (Diana, pg86.) She was described there as, "A girl who notices what needs to be done, then does it willingly and cheerfully." On December 20, 1995 Buckingham Palace confirmed Queen Elizabeth had written to Charles and Princess Diana urging them to divorce. On February 28, 1996 Princess Di agreed to the request of divorce. Despite the pain Charles put her through she called the day, the saddest day of her life. In 1980 Diana began her relationship with Prince Charles. (Diana, In Search of herself Pg.92) He was twelve years older than her and had previously dated her sister, Sarah. Prince Charles and Diana had only dated a short while before an engagement was announced in February of 1981. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Finally on August 28, 1996 after fifteen years of marriage, Charles and Diana's divorce was official. Princess Diana kept the title Princess of Wales and still did only her favorite charities. The two boys were in total confusion as to why their parents weren't happy together. Regardless of the lavish lifestyle that many children would love to have they could only dream of the simple wish of having a normal family. On June 25, 1997 Diana had a charity auction selling her gowns for more than $3.2 million dollars.(Michelin's August Issue Pg.40) She felt she wouldn't need the gowns for her new lifestyle. The Price and Princess of Wales first went to the Mountbatten family home at Broadlands, Hampshire for their honeymoon. Then flew to Gibralter to join the Royal Yacht HMY BRITANNIA for a twelve-day cruise through the Mediterranean to Egypt. They finished their honeymoon with a stay at Balmoral. The hope of having a normal family demolished in 1992 when the separation was made public. Diana gave her BBC television interview. She expressed her unhappiness in her personal life and the pressures of her public role. She described her horrible problems with bulimia. She also admitted to adultery with a man whom she said she adored, Officer James
