World Migration

It has been some years since foreign laborers were in common in Japan. Recently, we can see the foreign laborers everywhere in Japan.

While foreign laborers have been increasing, the number of people going abroad has been increasing year by year. And it comes to be very common to go abroad on vacation or business. Now the number of people going abroad in a year is more than 10 million people.(1) Though the foreign laborer is in common in Japan now, almost Japanese people are apt to be puzzled the way of touching foreigners. Kuwahara said, "this phenomenon is the same as the word, internationalization, which looks clear, but in fact vague."(2) In this essay, looking at each country's each correspondence of migrants, I would like to point out the relationship between migrants and inhabitants in each country.

Do you the laborers themselves think of the effect on the countries going to work to ? they may not think about the effect on each countries, but the government of the countries that the laborers leave have the other expectations. By sending the laborers to other countries, the unemployment rate is decreased. By remittances to the countries the laborers leave, the governments get international revenues. Originally, migrant

First, I am going to write why people migrated, and what migrants' origin was. An example in America will be a good to explain the questions. Because America's correspondence to migrants will give a hint about the way of acceptance of other culture, including migrants. After the Napoleonic War had been over in 1815, the peaceful age came around the Atlantic Ocean. The most people emigrated to America from 1815 to just before the World War ?(22). The French Revolution, the Napoleonic War, or an industrial revolution had brought a new period to Europe. It was the opening of free emigrants into America. The American government gave the rights of naturalization to migrants who had lived in America more than 5 years. Naturalized people had to live the state that they had applied for the rights of naturalization. They had to agree with republicanism. They could get the rights of naturalization easily if only they follow above-mentioned rule. Such a flexible correspondence of American government made emigrants to America increasing. This flexible correspondence would be a big key word of solving the problem between countries.

But why did N.Y. become so great city? And why does N.Y. fascinate people so much? One of the reasons that people are fascinated by N.Y. would be that N.Y. is a liberal city for all people, of course, for migrants. However N.Y. has not only attractive places for people. Crowded slums are next to a brilliant skyscraper, and some people were suffered from poor, low wages, the bad working conditions, unemployment, diseases, crime and discrimination. Nomura said, "N.Y. is a both extreme city, N.Y. shows a contradiction of capitalism" in his book, "Yudaya-Imin-no-New York" I am going to write about Jewish migrants according to "Yudaya-Imin-no-New York" written by Tatsurou Nomura.

Next, I am going to write about Korean in Japan. Hideki Harajiri said that we apt to think that we should know about Korean well because there are many Korean in Japan in his book, "Zainichi-to-siteno-Korean". But we do not know about them well in reality.

Compared with the other emigrants into America, Jewish emigrants did not return their mother countries. The other emigrants returned their countries. Considering this fact, Jewish migrants were the greatest emigrants of America. However, why did not Jewish emigrants return their mother countries? Because they did not have mother countries to return.

First, speaking about history of N.Y., N.Y. City originates in New Amsterdam that Dutchmen constructed in 1626. N.Y. was occupied by England afterwards. In those days, the population of N.Y. was small, but it became bigger rapidly because N.Y. had the most important harbors of all American cities. In 1910, the population of N.Y. became about 5 million (5). N.Y. was a symbol of America's wealth, ambitious and energy. In the late 19th century, a percentage of imported goods passing through N.Y. harbor were 70%(5). By the early 20th century, N.Y. has become the center of the financial business of the world. Great rich men built their huge houses like a palace, kept many servants, and lived a life of luxury. But only the great rich men did not live in New York at that time.

By the way, which Jewish among all kinds of Jewish emigrated into America? The difference of jobs made the difference of the rate of migration. The rate of the manufacturing industry's worker was the highest. They were professionals, so they were easy to work in American manufacturing industry, too. But most of Jewish worked at small enterprises in America because a mechanical engineer was not developed among them. Of the various manufacturing industry, many Jewish people engaged in the clothing industry. They had a tradition about the clothing industry, moreover they hardly engaged in manual work. This point was typical of Jewish migrants. They liked working at a company operated by Jewish. Because they wanted to work at comfortable company like as the company in
