The Outsider

Prosecutors and members of the jury I would like to testify that Meuersalt is in fact not guilty for the death of the Arab. Jury you have heard the prosecutions case. You have heard all the accusations made against this man. They claim to have looked into his soul and found nothing. However the prosecution can only see what they want to see and they don't look any further. When I look into this man I see a man victimized for not conforming to society's beliefs. This man doesn't lie to you. Jury you have seen he has admitted to each and every account of the day as it happened. What hasn't been looked into is how and why it happened. This is a simple case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time with Meuersalt being the victim. Although the death looked thoroughly planned, there are very logical explanations for each event that occurred leading up to the day of the Arab's death. Jury I will go over each event of the past couple of weeks, starting with his Meuersalt's mothers funeral to prove to you that he is in fact a decent man that by chance got involved in a death that was a unfortunate incident and not a cold blooded murder.

The event of Meurersalt's mother's funeral had no connection what so ev

Now jury that we have cleared up the prosecutions accusations we can move on to the real reason why Meuersalt is present in this courtroom today. I will go over the main events of the day as they occurred. The day prior to the shooting Raymond had been followed around by a large group of Arabs of which one was the brother of his former mistress. On the morning of the shooting Raymond, Meuersalt and Marie were eyed by some Arabs loitering in front of the Tobacconist whilst getting off the bus near Masson's Chalet. Marie witnessed Raymond becoming anxious which signified he knew all along there was tension and the possibility of a confrontation. He chose not to inform Meuersalt or Marie of this. Jury you must know at this point Meuersalt and Marie knew nothing of this confliction and were not involved one bit. Raymond insists they weren't being followed back to the Chalet however sometime after lunch Raymond, and Meuersalt were confronted by the Arabs again whilst walking along the beach. Masson admitted they had all drunk a lot of wine at lunch and Raymond may have been slightly intoxicated when he approached the Arabs because he went straight up and initiated the fight. The Arabs had knives in their possession which they wounded Raymond with. After this point Masson witnessed the Arabs backing off and running away. Raymond, Masson and Meuersalt returned to the Chalet then Masson escorted Raymond to the doctors to have his injury looked at. Apparently Raymond was fuming when he returned from the doctors. Masson witnessed him walk back down onto the beach again. He said he was just getting some air but Meuersalt got the impression he knew were he was going. Meuersalt followed Raymond to the spring and the two Arabs were sitting there. Meuersalt was then asked by Raymond if he should shoot the Arab who gashed him. Here Jury, Meuersalt was presented with the perfect opportunity to have the Arab shot. If he'd wanted the Arab killed he would have let Raymond do it right here and then. Instead Meuersalt persuaded Raymond against it because he himself had no motive to kill the Arab. Not only that Meuersalt managed to get Raymond to give up his gun so that he wouldn't be tempted to shoot the Arab. At this point Meuersalt had possession of Raymond's gun. Raymond shouted abuse at the Arabs to get them worked up but the Arabs saw the gun and retreated behind the rock. With this Raymond and Meuersalt returned back to the Chalet. Meuersalt didn't go inside this time, he stated that this was because he didn't want to confront the women again and have to explain what had happened.

er with the death of the Arab. However to clear the accusations that were made against Meuersalt. I have come across his journal which I would like to submit as evidence. The prosecution believes that Meuersalt is a withdrawn person, in his journal he states that the reason for this is that he speaks only when he has something worth saying. It is the same with his fe
