Although the New York Knicks were victorious over the New Jersey Nets tonight, it looks as though neither team will be competing for the Championship Ring this year. Neither the Knicks nor the Nets seem to have the team chemistry or the individual talent to be championship contenders. Tonight, however, the Knicks consistent and powerful defense was able to defeat the Nets, who now have lost 8 games in a row. Although the Knicks have an impressive record at 7-3, their competition has generally not been of championship caliber. While the Knicks defense was superior, the Nets shot less than 30 percent from the field, the Knick’s offense was so impotent that the Nets were in the game until the final minutes. The Knicks 62 percent free throw shooting also allowed Nets to stay in the game. An ugly win for the Knicks, full of turnovers, poor free-throw shooting, poor offense, but a win none the less. The highlight for the Knicks in tonight’s game was the exceptional play of point guard Charlie Ward, the former college football great who left the foot ball fields for the bright lights of Madison Square Garden.
