As governments continue to execute violent and dangerous criminals, they continue to relay a non-passive position on brutal and heinous crimes. This in turn communicates a strong willingness to uphold the law at any expense. Criminals see this message and are gradually conforming to the laws and morals of today's society. As a result of an increasing number of executions, the national crime rate continues to drop, but the increase in executions are making some angry. Many feel this type of discipline is robbing the nation of its ethics and morals. Why would the state execute offenders while they could give them a LIFE sentence and still relay a zero tolerance policy? Would this not still keep these dangerous individuals form causing further harm? These are valid questions with very straightforward answers. First, people do not wish to pay extra taxes for the incarceration of criminals. They also fail to realize that society seeks retribution for shocking and hideous crimes. Knowing that society will pursue vengeance, the potential offender would be persuaded, by execution, not to commit these unthinkable crimes. It is this persuasion that causes government to hold firm the idea of capital punishment for protection of the general population from past and future assailants. While Americans take for granted their safety and freedom, they tend to ignore measures that must to be taken to ensure life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Executing the dangerous and cancerous members of our society is a small price to pay to live in the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
