As in most neighborhoods of Philadelphia, crime takes place in all shapes and forms, just as it does in my neighborhood, East Falls. Burglary, retail theft, and assault are just a few of the crimes that consistently happen around here, fortunately my family and I haven't run into any major problems in these cases. The main problem which we have had over the years was car theft. Thankfully, due to advances in technology such as the club and car alarms, we haven't had a car stolen in a long time.
Around ten or so years ago cars began disappearing from the neighborhood and I thought that it would never happen to us. Eventually the problem got closer when cars on our street began getting stolen. Then, right before I knew it, I witnessed my first crime looking out my window at an early age, a man was breaking into our chevy station wagon and stealing the radio from it. I then went downstairs and began to tell my mother and father what I had seen. Being that they had company over they were barely paying attention to me and didn't really believe me any ways. The next morning when we were on our way to schoo
l surely enough the radio was gone from the car and I was right. A few years passed until anything serious really happened then that same green station wagon was stolen from right outside of our house. Time went by and the car wasn't recovered yet so my father collected the insurance money and bought a brand-new 1988 chevy blazer. It turns out that a month or so after we had our new car the old one was found.
A few years later one of my aunts from roxborough was visiting her niece and nephews, she pulled up in her fairly new Toyota Cressida, and never saw it again after she came into our house. She had been in the house for only around a half an hour when she realized that she left a gift in the car and when she went back outside it was gone that fast. It had to have been around five o'clock at night because I can recall that it was still light out. Now when our aunts and family visit they make sure that they lock their doors and put their alarms on.
After we had purchased the brand-new Chevy Blazer that to was stolen and returned within 15 or so days. This time the police said that it was just taken for a joy ride
