Through the different works of William Shakespeare, it is evident that the power of love changes as quick as time and it can be altered by other powerful emotions. Emily Bronte illustrates the transformation of passionate love into hatred in the world of Wuthering Heights. In the novel, characters such as Heathcliff, Catherine, Edgar, and Isabella experience love and its ultimate downfall. Catherine’s obsession over her undying love for Heathcliff fluctuates into hatred because of her fear in degrading herself by marrying a man of lower class. On the contrary, Heathcliff’s love for Catherine is overcome with jealousy when he is inform of Catherine’s marriage to Edgar. So, Heathcliff preys on Isabella’s ignorance towards his false love for her. Therefore, through obsession, jealousy, and ignorance, passionate love is consumed by the darkness of hatred.Growing up together in the same household, Catherine and Heathcliff develop feelings for each other at a young age.
