Knock Off or Knock Out?
When referring to a game as being a “knock off”, there has been a previously released game (usually from a different company) that is almost identical to the newly manufactured product. Not only that, but the new game is not even remotely close to being as entertaining as the game it has copied. Why do we think that? Why do we assume that the “knock off” game is automatically going to be worse than the game already played? The PlayStation consol game Crash Team Racing is a perfect example of a game that is copying a previously made product, but is defiantly a better purchase. Crash Team Racing (CTR) provides humor, adventure, challenge, a storyline, and flow to make it one of the most entertaining racing games on the market. You might have already guessed, but the game that CTR is copying is Nintendo’s Mario Kart 64 for the N64 consol. Consisting of characters from many smash hit games including Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong, now all riding little go-karts that can shoot, drop, or fire items that help the player through the track.
