Women: Liberated or Not
How would you feel when you are thousands of miles away from home in a foreign land as a guest. You have been living there for a while now and things look very good. But then suddenly a true sad event takes place for which you are not at all accountable, but the ignorant people think you are. While shopping at a local K-mart in the United States a Muslim women was confronted by a local who came up to her shouting and asked her to leave the country at once also asked her not to wear the veil, which mind you, she does because of her own belief. To top it all of this incident happens in front of the women's three young sons. The knowledge I hold of Islam is very limited, but I think I am able enough to speak and write about some of the major misconceptions about Islam in the western world. My reasoning and comments might not be exactly by the books, but still I think they are able to satisfy any rational person, who listens to my arguments as a human being instead of being just a Christian, Jew, Hindu etc. I would be shedding some light on the status of women in a current Islamic society. When Islam was first introduced around 1400 years back, women of Arabia had no rights what so ever. Daughters were buried alive and women were treated as a belonging instead of a person. Today women are a symbol of respect and dignity in the Muslim world. Women in my country do every thing a man can and more. I have a very big family and it surely has a lot of girls. None of the girls I know do not o to schools colleges and even universities. Two of elder my cousins are just about getting done from medical school. My family is just a regular common family, so I would say education is not a problem for women in at least the cities of a third world Muslim country.
