Southern Speak
Perhaps it is precocious of me to say it, but I believe a great many southerners speak as if they are uneducated.My husband and his family are among those many. His mother speaks so poorly that rednecks refer to her as a hillbilly. I do not know the difference and perhaps it is because I am a northerner and have never been exposed to it very little. I have never cut off the lights, I am never fixin to do something, and I have no idea where yonder is. Before we moved to Rocky Mount, my husband and I lived in Goldsboro, where most his immediate family was less than a mile away. My mother-in-law, Brenda, who does not drive, would call me and ask me to carry her over yonder quite often.
