john Grisham
On any given day in America thousands of infants are born but on February 8, 1955 in a small town in Arkansas named Jonesboro, one of the most famous modern day authors was born. John Grisham was born a poor child with four other siblings. His father was a cotton farmer and his mother a housewife. Young John loved the game of baseball and one day aspired to become the best baseball player that ever lived. His mother had other plans. Although she wasn't well educated she insisted that John excel in school (Bradstrom). After graduating high school in Southhaven, Mississippi, he went on to enroll, attend and play baseball at Northwest Mississippi Junior College in 1973. After attending this college for a year and becoming somewhat of a success in sports while failing miserably at academics he transferred to Delta State University. At the urging of one of his coaches he finally let go of the childhood dream of making it big in baseball and quit the team to concentrate on his studies. After finishing out the year he transferred to Mississippi State University in 1975. With the task of graduating at hand Grisham studied hard as an accounting major and graduated from MSU two years later. The last leg of his education was spent
The Partner. Doubleday: New York. 1997 Grisham now lives with his wife of sixteen years, Renee and has two teenage children Ty and Shea. To shows John's integrity there is the example of him returning to the courtroom in 1996. He had promised the family of a railroad worker that he would argue their case. He argued it very well getting the family over a half a million dollars for their father's death (bookbrowse). John spends half the year tending to the little league baseball complex he built for his children and their friends. He donated The Field of Dreams and his many hours of time to aspiring children who started out with the same dream of playing baseball as he. It is human nature to do what you know best and in this case John Grisham knows nothing about life's future plans but he does know the law. The law itself, and our court system has always been interesting to me therefore, when this assignment was given it was my nature to research an author that has the same interests as I. John Grisham has a background in America's court systems. In 1975, before I was even thought of, Mr. Grisham was getting an education from Mississippi State University that would greatly aid his unknown future career. It was here he was taught the ins and outs of courtrooms and the ups and downs of the system. Upon graduation, he began to practice law in his hometown. (Brandstrom) It didn't take John long to realize his talents were being wasted in our courtroom, and he began to write as a hobby his first small novel. John's mother laid the foundation of reading and writing for him. It was in his childhood that he acquired his yearning for a good book. When John was young, his parents were poor and his mother encouraged reading as entertainment (Interview). This entertainment obviously stuck with John because thirty years later his hobby turned into the nation's number one bestseller, A Time to Kill. A Time to Kill. Doubleday: New York. 1993 It is hard to believe that anybody would take the trouble of writing a dozen books if they weren't expressing their deep-seeded feelings about life. It is alsohard to fathom that the people reading these books can be totally oblivious to the fact that John Grisham is writing about subject matters that are important to him and that he can relate to. John Grisham is an excellent author with many excellent messages to send to people everywhere.
