There are many differences, and a few similarities that can be found when comparing Islam and Hinduism. The preceding paragraphs will concentrate on comparing these specific areas: Background, Idea of God, Creation, Salvation, and Destiny.

Firstly, we must recognize the backgrounds of the two religions. Islam, the youngest of the major world religions, is only fourteen centuries old. It originates from the story of Muhammad, a prince who, after much meditation, arrives at many a revelation. These revelations can be found in the Quran, which Muslims believe to be the will and essential truths of God imparted to Muhammad. Muslims base their lives upon these truths.

For Muslims, if all goes well, the ends is paradise. There will be a judgment to weed out the believers from the unbelievers. This is the fear, and also the motivation of the Muslims, for no one can predict who will be saved. Hindus, on the other hand, have no description of a paradise found in the afterlife. A Hindu's goal is to reach a culmination of reincarnation, so that pain and suffering stops and nothingness begins.

In conclusion, one can see the many differences and the few parallels between these two religions.
