The main character of the play is Laura. Since this is a play Williams gives the personality of Laura directly and indirectly. In the casting notes of the play Williams describes Laura, but the main form of description comes from within the play by the actions Laura takes and the way she behaves. If she wanted to be social the perfect opportunity would have been to go to school, however she chooses not to attend so the reader knows she is not an extrovert. A further incidence of her nonsocial side is revealed when Jim is at the apartment and she is sick and has to be excused. When Jim comes out to talk to her she doesn't seem to be bothered by her ailment anymore. Laura changes in the play when she opens up a little and talks to Jim. After Amanda forced Laura to open the door for Jim she sees that it is the same Jim
