In the book "Duddy Kravitz," Duddy is a young Jewish boy that demonstrates the way a young Jewish man is expected to act according to stereotypes handed down over the years. Jewish people are assumed to be a people that show personality traits such as lying, cheating, and stinginess. The author has portrayed many examples of Jewish characteristics in Duddy to make him the "Perfect Jew". He is found in many instances expressing these typical Jewish stereotypes. In the novel, Duddy is a person who appears to have no problem lying to someone in order to allow himself to prosper in some manner. He uses these tactics during his high school years, in his many job ventures, and even with his close friends. The first instance in which this is shown is to Mr. MacPherson. While Mr. MacPherson was Duddy's teacher, Duddy constantly tormented him and played cruel pranks on him. One example was when Mr. MacPherson was out of the classroom, and someone drew a picture mocking him. When he confronted Duddy on this, Duddy refused to point out the culprit.
