Freedom
For thousands of years, mankind has searched for the true meaning of freedom. There are people all over the world believing that America symbolizes freedom. For the people who live in America, they believe that they have freedom. America is a free country; you have the freedom of speech and freedom to do things as one pleases. But is the freedom that we have the true freedom? Gerry Spence who is one of the American's most outspoken and successful trial lawyers, says that, "We are not free. Nor have we ever been." We as humans, we are afraid and worried about many things. We are afraid of death, loneliness, and rejections. Since we have so many things to be afraid and worry about, we don't really have freedom. To me, freedom is not to be afraid or worried about something. In other words, when I have no burden, then I am free. It is just like what Gerry Spence said, "A state of perfect freedom is a state of nothingness." NO matter how free we believe we are, there is always an invisible chain that fetters us. The shackle can be our family, people around us, the world we live in, and even ourselves. Even though we have the freedom to do what we please, say, and what we want; but we are not as free as we think we a
Truly, we have the freedom to do and speak what we wish. But because mankinds are society animals, people cannot be alone. So for most of the time, we give up our freedom in order to find happiness in life. A human, we are afraid of many things; afraid of causing worry. When we are worried, it means that there are things that are bothering us; this way, we are no longer free. Humans are afraid of death. We try to find peace in religions. There are religions all over the world, each religion have their own sets of roles. For Islam, they can't eat pork. In Buddhism, they can only eat vegetables. What freedom do we really have when we need to follow the religion's roles? This is because we try to find peace to make us not afraid of death. We put ourselves into religion roles. We follow the roles of the religion meaning we are owned by that religion, therefore, we loose our freedom. Humans are afraid of loneliness. Humans are social animals; we cannot stand to be alone. We urge for sense of belonging, so we put ourselves into relationships. Once we are in the relationships, we give up our freedom to keep the relationship. WE can use marriage as an example. When two people get marry, it's their responsibility to take care of each other. They both give up the freedom to have love relationships with other men or women; because they have made a commitment to each other. There is no pure freedom after commitment. Humans are afraid of rejection. For most of our lives, we follow other people's command, because we don't want to get rejected. When we are young, we follow what our parents tell us to do, because we don't want them to not love us. When we are s
