1. In the first chapter of The Pearl Kino tells about the music he hears in his head like "The Song of the Family". In their brush house in a hanging box lies his baby Coyotito and a scorpion slowly moved towards him, while in Kino's head "The Song of Evil" plays loudly. Then the scorpion fell on Coyotito and stung him. Then Kino's wife Juana tried to save him by sucking out the poison. Soon the whole village knew about him being stung. Then when they took the baby to the doctor, he wouldn't treat him because of their race and because he knew they were poor.

1. The first main character is Kino who cares about his family and is a nice person in character. Kino's goal in the story is to sell the pe


arl he finds while diving and support his family. Kino tries to sell it so he can put his son in school, get legally married to his wife, and so forth, but is doesn't turn out the way he wants.

1. First the book starts out by the baby Coyotito being stung by a scorpion. Then a while later Kino and Juana go out oyster diving in their canoe, hoping to find pearls. While looking through the oysters for pearls they find a great pearl, the "Pearl of the World". Then everyone got excited about his finding and wanted a piece of it including the doctor that wouldn't treat Cototito in the first chapter. Then the night after he found the pearl someone broke into his hut and tried to steal the pearl. Then the next day he went to the market to sell the pearl but they wouldn't give him the amount he wanted. Then later he tries to go to the capitol to sell it but it was unsuccessful. He ends up killing a guy who tried to steal his pearl and him, Juana, and Coyotito left town to get away. On their way they find themselves being hunted down by a co
