Crouching Tiger

Winner of four Academy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards, "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" paved a new path for foreign language films in America. It was the dream of the director, Ang Lee, to one day produce a Chinese tradition film that depicted the fantasy world of martial arts with its own specific laws; where people can fly and almost anything can happen. Unlike most martial arts film in the industry base solely on fight scenes, Lee was able to have "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" a film that included the sense of fantasy, action, power, and romance. Yet, without the help of the whole cast, Lee's incredible dream would probably remain a fantasy only in his own mind.

The setting of the film took place during the 19th century where China was left untouched by the western civilization while the Chinese tradition and its breathtaking landscape sworn the entire plains of main lands. Two excellent swordsman masters (Chow Yun fat and Michelle Yeoh) are challenged with the disappearance of the most treasured Green Destiny sword. The sword was stolen by a young aristocrat (Zhang Ziyi) who reveled her hidden talent of superb fighting skills by demonstrating it upon anyone who stepped in her way. Each warrior and fighter though tou

The actors and actresses also contributed greatly to the success of the film. The actors and actresses were both talented in martial arts and dramatic in performance. I believe Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh with Zhang Ziyi were excellent choices for this film. Chow Yun Fat, the sword master, maintained stern faced throughout the whole movie yet in the love scenes his face became gentle and full of affection which forced me to believe that only he could be most suitable for this part of the film. His graceful movement and handling of the Green Destiny was remarkable. As for the actresses, Michelle Yeoh performed majestically with Zhang Ziyi. Their hand combat and weapons combat were the core of the entertainment. They perform their scene like a extended dance, elegantly in the air and on the ground. Michelle having been in most action pack films portrayed her character most strong and confident. The young talent, Zhang Ziyi had incredible luring eyes that really help describe her character: one who is not lost and knew exactly what they want. The way she gazes directly at the camera shows the confident in her ability to act and perform as a young actor. She is the hidden dragon in the film. Her character's life is mysterious. Trapped in her courtyard, she knew her life can not go on if she stayed there. The only life suitable for her is the world outside. No one really knows what she is doing and why. The only answer she gives is through her eyes.

I believe Ang Lee thro
