Thomas Hobbes was a very unique individual. His ideas about absolutism changed peoples live still to this day. To understand his ideas you might need to find out a little about his back round. He was born in London, England on April 5,1588. He went to college at Oxford University in England. Hobbes enjoyed going to other European countries to meet with scientists to study different forms of government. He also was an author, he wrote Leviathan, The Matter, Form, and Power of a Commonwealth Ecclesiastical and Civil. One of the most substantial books would be Leviathan. This describes how government need so be a "supernatural sea creature" to substain a safe way of lives.

When you hear his ideas for the fist time it's easy to completely be outraged and not believe any of it. The time you hear that "people are naturally wicked and could not be trusted to govern," you might be inclined to put the paper down and not even listen to him. On the flip side he sort of agreed with some of the ideas of democracy. Hobbes believe that a diverse group of representatives [resenting the problems of a common person would, hopefully, prevent a king form becoming cruel and unfair. During this dictatorship the business were becoming more powerful. To offset this growing power of business, Hobbes believed that an individual could be heard in government by authorizing a representative to speak on their behalf. To tell you the truth Hobbes came up with the phrase "voice of the people." But the "voice" was heard but not necessary listened to, the final decision lay with the king.

The ideas expressed by Hobbes were different than many other thoughts. His idea about a king is fairly realistic. There is no denying it, if you were to be ruled by a king most laws would be quick and you would mostly always have a simple mentality to deal with. Being that we live in a country that is ruled by a democracy then you have such a strong fear about monarchies.
